Emporia State University congratulates more than 700 undergraduates named to the university honor roll and dean's lists for spring 2019.

Cloud County Community College (CCCC) has announced the names of students on the Spring 2019 Honor Roll. To be named to this honor roll, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours of college coursework and earned a semester grade point average of 3.6-3.899.

Cloud County Community College (CCCC) has announced the names of students on the Spring 2019 President's List. To be named to the President's List, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours of college coursework and earned a semester grade point average of 3.9-4.0.

A total of 11,406 students enrolled during the 2019 spring term at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or to undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

More than 230 students were honored during the First-Year Scholars Reception at Emporia State University. The event honored first-year students at ESU who earned a 3.5 or higher grade point average in their first semester.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln conferred 3,490 degrees during commencement exercises May 3 and 4. The spring graduating class was the largest in the university's 150-year history.

Nearly 500 students at The University of Alabama highlighted their research and creative projects during the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference on March 27. The 12th annual conference is hosted by UA's Office for Undergraduate Research and the Office for Research and Economic Development. Poster presentations are grouped by research areas -- instead of by academic colleges or departments -- to align with national trends of using interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving. The conference spurs interest in research among undergraduate students and helps students polish their communication skills, said Dr. Kim Bissell, director of the Office for Undergraduate Research. "We have got some pretty phenomenal students who are truly doing great things," she said.

The University of Alabama has inducted a new group of students into its chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Founded on December 5, 1776, The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation's most prestigious academic honor society. It has chapters at 286 colleges and universities in the United States, 50 alumni associations, and more than half a million members worldwide. Noteworthy members include 17 U.S. Presidents, 39 Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States and more than 130 Nobel Laureates. The mission of The Phi Beta Kappa Society is to champion education in the liberal arts and sciences, foster freedom of thought, and recognize academic excellence. UA's chapter was founded in 1851. Students are elected to membership on the basis of outstanding academic achievement in the liberal arts and sciences.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced that The University of Alabama will receive two grants totaling $28,909 to fund two Phase I student teams through the People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) grants program. More than $463,000 in funding is being provided by the program for 31 teams nationwide that are developing sustainable technologies to solve current environmental and public health challenges. One project is "GIS Enabled Green Infrastructure Design Tool," led by Dr. Mark Elliott, assistant professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering.
